Daenerys inspired braids

I love a braid. It doesn't take all that much effort (once you are used to it) and makes you look like you spent ages doing your hair (in reality I spend hours on my makeup and little or no time dealing with my locks) 

I also love Dany from Game of Thrones. She's a badass dragon queen with nice hair. What's not to love? I've tried lots of braid looks, but my latest attempt is a more "wearable" version of this (without looking like a completely mental fan girl) 

So here's my attempt 

 I've got to say, I kind of love it. It's basically a French, Dutch braid plaited towards the back of the head so that it stays in that position itself. A Dutch braid is simply a plait where the pieces are placed under each other, not over. If you do not know how to Dutch/French braid then it's worth checking out some YouTube tutorials, as that's how I learnt! 

It's super comfortable and keeps my hair off my face in this unusually hot British weather. 

Front view! I secured the end of the braids with small elastics, and they have stayed in place all day! 

Have any of you guys tried to recreate any Game of Thrones / Daenerys Targaryen inspired hair styles? 

Hair update!

So I published a post all about my hair earlier today but now it looks radically different. Let me explain! 

I love crazy colours in my hair... I've had black ends, pink, purple, blue.. You name it. So when my wonderful hair dresser came to give me a trim she knew I would probably ask for something out there! 

I didn't disappoint and neither did she! 

It's pulling red on camera but it's actually pink/purple. Now what's fabulous is that it's not a temporary hair dye, it's actually a toner, meaning that it's deep conditioning my hair at the same time. I will no doubt miss it once it's washed out, but I do like to change colours up quite a lot so I'm sure between us we will think of something else for her next visit! 

Ps ignore the bathroom selfie. I'm just a average joe with no fancy lighting, so the bathroom is the easiest place. Plus, look how cute Lush The Comforter looks next to my new hair! 

1 minute review - NKDBODY Citrus hair mask

Hi all! So without being a big headed person, I have good hair. Some of this is just luck (my mums is unmanageable so don't know where mine comes from) but apart from that I take VERY good care of it. Part of that is using a weekly hair mask, and as one of my favourite You-tubers Brittney Lee Saunders recently released her own hair/skincare range I had to give it a shot! 

I ordered only one thing which was the citrus hair mask. It was getting a lot of positive reviews and her hair is looking fierce as of late so that sealed the deal for me. I ordered from Australia, but shipping was very affordable and Brittney had a code for 15% off so the lot came to $19.41 or £10.47 which isn't bad at all really. Shipping took 9 days which again is pretty good. 

The packaging is unique and at first I found it a bit annoying but I got over that pretty fast. 

I tried to flip this and for some reason the app I use wasn't having none of it so please excuse me! 

As you might have guessed it's citrus scented. I'm not a huge fan of citrus smells but it's so light it's not offensive at all. It has the consistency of a thick conditioner and I left it on around 5 minutes in the shower before I got impatient and washed it off

When I got out the shower, I saw the cute little card it came with, and it told me to take a NKD selfie and I obliged 

The first thing I noticed after use is that I could get a COMB through my hair. Not a tangle teezer, or even a brush, but a COMB. Sold. Hair styled as usual and here's a pic ( it's so hard to take selfies of hair... Hairfies? NO. 

This was last night and now it's today and I can't stop touching my hair. It's embarrassing. 

It's SUPER soft and even the ends which are normally fried (my hair is closer to bum then bra strap length) are silky soft. It's also not greasy looking and it seems "bouncier" than usual if anything. 

So safe to say I would definately reccomend this product, will be repurchasing and might have to try the clay mask next time too ( obviously that's for your face, clay in your hair would be a disgusting nightmare)

Has anyone else tried anything from the NKDBODY line? If so, what are your thoughts? 

3 braid hairstyle! Inspired by "Into the woods" Rupunzel

So lots of selfies today to attempt to show my hair off! I went to see the new Disney film "Into the woods" yesterday and although I wasn't too impressed, I LOVED Rupunzels hair in the movie. Obviously I have nowhere near the amount of hair that she has, but I still decided to give the Dutch multiple French plait thing a try. 

Looking at photos now, I really should have left out a few more whispy bits, next time!

I started off my separating my hair into three pieces and tied them with clear elastics. 

I have a popband in the middle section because I wanted it in a bun to keep it out of the way of the side pieces so that they could be braided. 

I then French Dutch braided the two side sections. Dutch braiding is braiding the hair under rather than over. If you need to learn how to French braid, I really recommend watching a follow along tutorial on YouTube.  

I pulled out bits of the braid to make the braid bigger and add texture. 

I then took the hair in the middle section and Dutch braided that down the back of my head, continuing the braids to almost the end of my hair. I left out some bits at the front that I could curl. 

I then braided the three braids together and secured with a clear elastic, and used my Ghds to curl the pieces I left out at the front. I really like the end result of this style, and it's perfect for days when your hair feels a bit out of control or just needs a wash. 

 

I'm biased anyway as I love braids, but are you a fan of the multi braid hairstyles or do you prefer the more traditional style? 

Review! Popband London hair ties!

So a hair ties a hair tie right? WRONG! If a hair tie was just a hair tie, then we wouldn't have our favourite ones (that we are gutted about when they mysteriously disappear into the black hole where all hair bands and grips go to retire! )

I discovered pop bands when I was looking for hair bands that would not leave marks in my hair. I thought it was a myth that I was chasing, like a unicorn, but it turns out they exist! I started off small by purchasing a single band ( I don't know if it's still available, it was white with a snowflake) and since then they are the only hair bands I will use. They DO NOT leave marks in your hair! I have super long hair and get hot easy so constantly taking my hair up and down, so to find a band that doesn't leave the ugly tell tale mark is amazing. Not only do they not mark your hair, they also don't mark your wrist! This has also led to me not losing so many of them, as they live on my wrist. They are super cute too and resemble festival bracelets. 

Here are some of the sets that I am lucky enough to own! 

So as you can see, they are super pretty and there's some for everyone. They also don't tug or pull your hair which prevents breakage. 

They do multipacks and singles ( with accents) as well as sets with headbands in ( couldn't find an example on the website at the moment but I do own the black glitter set)

They also do a subscription service which is good for people who need to stock up, or as a gift for younger girls with a passion for hair bands and wrist stacking. 

The downside is that they do stretch eventually, and it seems to be that how quickly they stretch out depends on the design ( my printed ones seem to stretch quicker than the plain colour ones for example) however this isn't too much of an issue for me as I have a LOT of hair! 

Not the best example as I twisted the band but you get the idea! 

The only other downside is that if you lend them out, don't expect to get them back...

I can also say from personal experience that they have amazing customer service. I had a very slight issue with one of the products and they got back to me super quick, sent me out a new one plus a little something extra. They are also very friendly which is a rare find! 

To sum up, give them a try! You may never look back! 

Heatless hairstyle number 2! Or "Mermaid hair"

Hello lovlies!

Here is my second (lazy girl) heatless hairstyle! I call this one "Mermaid hair"

The first two steps are the same as my heatless hairstyle number 1; 

Step 1: start off with freshly washed hair. Apply oil and your favourite leave in conditioner ( personally I adore Milk_shakes whipped cream, it is the most delicious smelling thing in the whole world and I wish you all could smell it!) let this sink in before brushing to ensure that tangles are easily sorted without breaking the hair. 

Step 2; allow hair to dry to 80%-90% dry. I prefer to air dry as much as possible, hence the heatless hair style but if you are really short of time then grab a blow dryer and rough dry. 

Step 3: seperate hair into 5 sections, as equally as possible. Braid them as normal. 

You should look like a scary Medusa, per example the above photograph

Step 4: sleep. I find these plaits easy to sleep in and not at alluncomfortable 

Step 5: undo the plaits. Unwind each one individually, do not brush the pieces together.   

Step 6: using your fingers, run thorough your hair so that partings from the plaits do not show, then hairspray! Sometimes I leave it loose, or pin up the front as I am in the process of growing out my fringe so it stands up a bit strange.

So there we go! Not sure if it's as wearable as my first heatless hair style but I like it all the same, especially in summer! 

What heatless hairstyles are your favourites? 

Heatless hairstyle number 1!

So I love my overnight heatless hairstyles A) because they stop damage caused by frequent heat tools and B) because I'm a lazy girl, it gets to about 9pm, my hair is damp and I cannot be bothered to dry and style it! 

Over the years I've come up with a few different methods, usually braids of different sizes and numbers, but this is the latest one I've been loving. Id read in magazines that if you put your hair in a bun overnight, you could wake up with beautiful waves. Well not me! My hair is too long and too thick, and is just soaking wet when I let it down after 7 hours sleep with a cold head. So here's my little adapted version

Step 1: start off with freshly washed hair. Step 3 : Seperate hair into two sections very roughly(three if your hair is MEGA thick!). If you do it too neat, when it's dry you can be left with the parting set all the way down the back of your head and in my opinion this is hideous. 

Step four: TIGHTLY twist one side section of the hair, all together, away from the face and with it pulled up on your head. This allows you to sleep comfortably in the night and away from the face is just far more flattering. 

Step five; simply repeat. You should be twisting so tightly that the hair WANTS to go into a bun naturally. I also use POPband London hair ties as they don't snag or pull the hair as there's nothing worse when you're trying to sleep. Now you look a bit like Minnie Mouse (please

excuse all the makeup less selfies, I'm going to sleep after remember?)

Step six: sleep. Ahh. My favourite step. 

Step seven; wake up. Remove your hair band carefully trying not to disturb the hair too much. Unraveled it should look like this 

Repeat for both sides. 

Step 8; run your fingers through the hair gently to seperate. DO NOT BRUSH. Hairspray and voila! I tend to pin back the front as I'm growing out my fringe, so here's some selfie examples of how I wear it : 

This hair style can also last for second day hair, brush lightly, it should go big at first but then set back into how it dried

You beauty discovery advent days 5,6,7&8

Sorry I've been absent!! Super hectic few days

 So anyhoo, on the 5th day of Christmas Santa gave to me 

It's a nice sized product but another lotion?! I also used it as my hand and arm cream before bed and it smelt a bit too strong for me. Still I know others would be pleased to recieve this in their calender. 

Day 6 gave me this lite beauty 

Apologies for the super bad quality photo here! I was SO excited to recieve this!! It's a small sample but I believe the full size product is around £85 so I won't complain (I'm almost hoping that I don't love it for that price!) I'm always happy to recieve any form of facemask but one that's rumoured to be used by Victoria's Secret models?! Even better! 

The 7th day wasn't a surprise as the product was heavy and pushed the little advent widow open! But it's a small (but not ridiculously miniature!) candle from armotherapy associates 

It smells good and they also provided me with a £10 off my next purchase voucher which I thought was rather generous 

Finally today, day 8 I recieved a deluxe sample of the Philips Kingsley elasticizer 

I know this is for many a holy grail hair product, but I tried it before and it turned my hair into a knotted mess! So going to donate this to a friend or family member, as just because something doesn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for them.
